Baseball Rebellion Swing Breakdown:
This week I thought it might be fun to appeal to the Softball Rebellion fans out there and break down one of the best to do it, Kelly Kretschman. Kelly Kretschman currently plays for the USSSA Pride which is one of five teams in the Nation Pro Fastpitch league. Kelly is a 12 year veteran who is still at the top of her game, leading the league is major offensive categories. For a more detailed breakdown of her stats, you can click here. Kelly has a very tall and wide stance and does several key moves from there to help her load her swing. You will notice that all great hitters have some variance of this move known as “loading the back hip”. This can be seen by the counter rotation of her hips during her stride. From there Kelly does a great job of creating separation and then using that to accelerate her barrel deep in the hitting zone which means behind her shoulder and into the path of the ball. By doing this, Kelly ensures that her barrel will always be in the way of the pitch thus her league leading batting average of .447. Kelly is a strong and athletic hitter and because of how efficient she works the barrel behind her, there is not much of a “finish” in this particular swing. I hope you enjoy this breakdown and please leave some questions or comments. Thanks!
